Steven Stokes
After more than 16 years and 400 events, I love my job as an event planner! I have had the good fortune to work for some amazing companies, and now am lucky to own my own company with one of my best friends on the planet - my sister Sara.
I am passionate about event planning because it gives me the opportunity to turn our clients idea into reality -- whether it is a 10 person party, a 250 person fundraiser, or a 100,000 person multi-day festival, my background working with multiple events gives me the training to be your event expert.
Job History:
My first job out of college was working for Up with People planning events in the US, Canada, and Europe. After completing in 2000, I worked as a contractor for Creative Strategies Group managing the Colorado Lottery account and then spent seven months at the Olympics/Paralympics in Salt Lake City planning 17 events for the Paralympic Torch Relay Program. When I returned to Denver, I worked for the City of Northglenn for five years planning 10 events and supporting an additional 20 events per year.
Teaching:
In addition, eight years ago I was asked to teach event planning at Arapahoe Community College and helped design the Event Management Certificate Program for the college. I now teach 30 lectures a year on all aspects of event planning. This has given me opportunities to write and teach, which I absolutely love. In addition I teach at conferences, via teleseminars and webinars each year sharing my knowledge of events with the people in my circles.
Community:
Knowing the value of community service and building a strong/family community around me I am the Vice President of the Cherry Creek Professionals Chapter of BNI (Business Networking International), and we are also members of the Colorado Festival and Events Association, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and the Parker Chamber of Commerce. In addition, I have taken many courses with Landmark Education and Peak Potentials Training.
